The term Student Support Services covers Pastoral Care, Support for Learning and Behaviour Support. It also embraces sources of student support available outwith the staffing complement of the school. The Student Support Services Team aims to offer fully integrated support to all students, at all stages of their school careers.
The Team is led by the Depute Headteacher (Student Support Services), who takes overall responsibility for all aspects of Student Support, including Care and Welfare issues, Inclusion and Equality, and Values and Citizenship. Two Principal Teachers (Student Support) share responsibility for all operational aspects of Student Support. In addition, each has a direct responsibility for the Pastoral Care of half the student population – a cohort of between 165 and 185 students, in each case. Students are arranged into tutor groups and Group Tutors see them daily. This daily contact can be a very valuable part of the support network.
Each student in the school is assigned to a Student Support teacher, with members of the same family in the same House group. The Student Support teacher will make every effort to get to know all children as individuals as they progress through school.
